Adam Drake Studio is shaped, first and foremost, by its founder and director, Adam Drake — though he began his working life on a rather different path.

Straight out of university, Adam was recruited by Deloitte, one of the City of London’s Big Four consultancies. He spent a few years there sharpening his project management skills. Something, though, didn’t sit right.

He’d graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in History and German, including a year at Tübingen University in Germany that he still calls the best year of his life. For a while, teaching modern languages looked like the obvious next step — he even brushed up his German at the Goethe-Institut. But underneath it all was a creative itch he hadn’t worked out how to scratch yet.

He started filming his own workouts in the gym. Then, against pretty much everyone’s advice, he bought himself a proper camera.

Taking time out to figure out his next move, Adam taught himself to use it, then invested in professional editing software — giving himself an economic reason not to let the hunch go. Before long, he’d impressed the team at Falmouth University enough to be offered a place on their Master’s in Film & Television.

At Falmouth, he threw himself into every part of the filmmaking process he could get his hands on, and came out the other side a genuinely multi-skilled filmmaker — with a Grierson Documentary Award nomination to his name. Since then, he’s worked with brands ranging from Apple to Adult Education.

What hasn’t changed is the instinct that first pulled him away from consultancy: a knack for finding the emotional truth in a story, not just the prettiest way to film it. Today, Adam and a trusted network of specialist creatives make films that stop thumbs, hold attention, and get audiences to actually feel something.
