A Community Project Tackling A Broken Food System
Falmouth Food Co-op is a community project with a simple, ambitious mission: to help make good food available to all. Formed in 2019 as a community interest company (CIC), the co-op has grown three projects, each one tackling a different part of what it sees as a broken food system.
That work is rooted in the soil at Loveland, the co-op’s market garden, where food is grown with the help of the local community around Falmouth and Penryn.

Three Projects, One Story
We worked with Falmouth Food Co-op across all three of their main projects to help tell their story and spread the word about what they do. The challenge with any organisation doing several things at once is clarity: a film that tries to explain everything usually ends up saying very little.
So rather than a list of services, we built the documentary around people and place. The growers, volunteers and organisers carry the story in their own words, and Loveland Market Garden gives it a home that anyone in Cornwall can picture.
Authentic Interviews, Beautiful Cinematography
Natural, Unscripted, Real
The voices in a community film belong to growers and volunteers, not presenters, so the first job is earning their trust. We kept the setups small and relaxed and let the conversations wander rather than reading lines. When contributors feel at ease, they speak honestly, and the film sounds like the co-op, because it is the co-op.
The Garden As A Character
Between the interviews, we let the camera slow down: low sun across the beds, hands in the soil, tomatoes ripening, the day’s harvest wheeled between rows. Observational, documentary-style filming that shows the work rather than describing it.
Building Trust, On Both Sides Of The Camera
Trust runs through this film in two directions. First with the contributors: people only open up on camera when they trust the person behind it, so we treat that relationship with as much care as the lighting or the edit. Then with the viewer: audiences can tell straight away when something is staged. Authentic voices and emotive, character-led storytelling are what make people believe in an organisation, and believing in it is what makes them want to get involved.
A Garden Built By Many Hands
The chalkboard says it all: weeding, gap filling the strawberries, planting salad in the tunnel. Loveland is a working market garden, and it is a place where people come together to grow food. Capturing that sense of shared effort was central to the film.
For a CIC, that matters commercially as well as emotionally. A documentary that shows real people doing real work builds the kind of trust that brings in volunteers, customers, funders and partners.

Grounded In Place
Falmouth is home for us too, which made this a project close to our hearts. Knowing the area meant we could plan around the light, the season and the rhythm of the garden, and come away with footage that feels unmistakably local: green fields, working hands and the town on the hill beyond.
Documentary Film For Charities, CICs And Community Projects
Purpose-led organisations rarely have the budget for a scattergun marketing campaign. One well-made short documentary can work much harder: on a website, at funding presentations, across social media and at events, it explains what you do and, more importantly, makes people care.
