Why Video Matters
Dance is one of the hardest art forms to translate into a still image, because so much of what makes it powerful — timing, momentum, the space between movements — only exists in motion. Video is really the only medium that can build a real understanding of a performance the way an audience actually experiences it live.
Our Process
We work closely with choreographers and dancers to understand the piece before filming — where the camera can and can’t go, which angles serve the choreography, and how to capture a live rehearsal or performance without breaking its energy.
Dance photography freezes the moments video can only pass through — we often shoot stills of the same rehearsal or performance.
